Laptop Dvd Drive Enclosure
how do i get my new hard drive to show up in “My computer”?
I bought a new SATA hard drive and a hard drive enclosure so i can upgrade to the new hard drive in my dell inspiron 1501 laptop. but i can not get it to show up in the My Computer window where it shows the other hard drive and cd/dvd drives. It only shows up in my device manager and thats it. How do i get it to show up so i can format the new hard drive? thanks
i initialized the drive and it says its online but its still not showing up.
I have windows vista basic. what settings and what format do i put this drive in if it ever does let me format it
Two things you can try….
1) Go to Start > My Computer > right click > Manage > click disk management and proceed to initialize the drive.
2) Assuming your external enclosure is USB based…
Go to: Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > navigate down to USB Root HUB (all of them) > Right Click > Properties > Power Management Tab > Un check “allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
Retry your USB enclosure…
